Deferral from mobilization for half-siblings: what will change from September 7?
On September 6, 2024, the newspaper 'Holos Ukrainy' published Law № 3916-IX, which introduces amendments to the Law of Ukraine 'On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization.' The changes extend the list of conscripts entitled to deferment, including those whose close relatives, such as full or half-brothers or sisters, were killed or went missing during combat. The law will come into effect on September 7, 2024.

The purpose of the law is to grant deferral from military service for conscripts whose close relatives were affected by combat. Previously, half-brothers and sisters could be mobilized, even if one of them was killed or went missing, unlike full siblings. The new law improves these regulations, ensuring equal protection for all. As explained by Arseniy Pushkarenko, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy, these changes address shortcomings in the previous legislation.
